February 2025 saw the Consortium Collaborate HR Forum, hosted by Dawn Parker, Director at Consortium Professional Recruitment. The session brought together HR professionals from across the region for an interactive and open discussion on a critical workplace issue: drug and alcohol screening.
An important topic for HR leaders
The presentation, delivered in a friendly and collaborative format by Catherine at Lemon Cherry, explored both the ‘highs’ (prescribed or otherwise) and the ‘lows’ of drug and alcohol use in the workplace. As a safety-critical and welfare-focused subject, it sparked meaningful conversation among attendees who shared their own perspectives and challenges.
Insights from practitioners
Attendees had the opportunity to hear directly from Drug & Alcohol Screening Practitioners, who provided an interactive and fun quiz, real life demonstrations and expert insights into current protocols along with the complexities of managing screening in different workplace environments. This practitioner-led element encouraged HR professionals to raise questions, share real-world experiences, and explore approaches to balancing employee wellbeing with organisational responsibility.
A collaborative space for discussion
As always, the Consortium Collaborate HR Forum emphasised openness, collaboration, and practical learning. The format encouraged participants to exchange knowledge with their peers, gaining fresh insights into how other organisations are handling similar challenges. The atmosphere was supportive, creating a safe space for HR leaders to ask difficult questions and share ideas without judgement.
Looking ahead
The February session underlined the importance of HR professionals staying informed about complex workplace issues and having access to expert guidance. With the forum continuing to grow, future events will keep providing a platform for open discussion, professional development, and community building.
